NY-based KickApps has picked up an additional $20 million in second-round financing, PEHub reports. We initially profiled KickApps back in June. Silicon Ally Insider also reports regarding KickApps, "Last week, KickApps hired Michael Chin to run the company's marketing strategy. Chin previously headed up bizdev at PR firm Bite Communications."

KickApps is similar to Ning in that it can help you create a white-labeled social network to an existing site. I have written several times in the past that building upon others technology could be a recipe for disaster if that company goes under.

I guess some of the $20 million will help them continue to the banner ads they are running through Federated Media on sites such as TechCrunch, Read/WriteWeb and Mashable. Congrats to all involved! I asked the company for an interview last week but have yet to hear back.

Hey Ya'All - thought I would share some upcoming conferences I think are worth checking out. Of course, you can check out all of our past conference coverage as well to get a flavor from the past editions of the upcoming conferences. Lastly, check out Meetup and Upcoming for additional conferences and get togethers in your area.

September 2007

  • TechCocktail - September 6, Boston - Free! - Excellent networking opportunity and a chance to hear some of the Boston area startups speak about their companies and the industry. Registration opened today so get in quick! I will be there wearing my Yankees gear!
  • TechCrunch 20 - September 17-18, San Francisco - I will be covering this conference and will try to get overviews of all 100 in the demo pit. TC20 is very expensive at $2,495 for 2 days!
  • X Change - September 20-21, Napa Valley - It's a Web analytics conference which looks like it could be interesting, I have requested a press pass but will need to figure out how to get to Napa - $1,200
  • I will be in San Francisco for 10 days with the goal of meeting as many companies as possible for profiling on CN. Spots will go quick so email me if interested!
  • ad:tech - September 26-27, London - check out my past ad:tech coverage for an idea of what will be offered. Double the pricing for USD.

October 2007

  • Future of Web Apps - October 3-5, London - wish I could go (anyone interested in sponsoring a plane ticket??) but this should be even better than last year's edition. It's in London so for us Americans, just double all the prices listed.

November 2007

  • Future of Web Design - November 7-8, New York - Another Carson Systems conference, this time at the huge Javits Center. Pricing is in USD and the two day pass is $495. I am looking at a CN gathering one evening during FoWD.

Please let me know if there are other conferences that should be listed and/or covered!
