PriceGrabber: 54% of Online Consumers Don’t Plan to Purchase an iPhone

hakiaNY-based Hakia is announcing the launch of their white-label semantic Web search (they call it Syndication Web Services) today. The idea is simple - you can now add Hakia’s services to your site offering more intense search functionality for your visitors.

The business model is welcoming; offer 30,000 searches per day free of charge and free of advertising then they will discuss a relationship with you past the 30,000. What this means is that small social networks may never pay anything for using the Hakia service but provide a great benefit for their users.

The Syndication Web Services include Web search, News search, Vertical search, Summarizer, Categorizer, Characterizer and Text Meaning Representation. The services provide an XML feed, and options to customize the feed. The first company using the new service is Berggi. Berggi has created a worldwide mobile search application.

ApplePriceGrabber is out with a new study this morning that ends with the following: 54% of online consumers don’t plan to purchase an Apple iPhone. They conducted the panel with just over 3,000 online consumers. The full report is available for download here.

The iPhone is undoubtedly the most talked-about mobile device in the market and has raised customers’ expectations of other vendors. While only 4 percent of survey respondents currently own an iPhone, 42 percent are considering purchasing one. Of the remaining 54 percent who do not intend to purchase the iPhone, 41 percent say that the mobile device costs too much and another 22 percent prefer a network carrier other than AT&T. Prior to Apple’s announcement that the new iPhone 3G will cost $199, Apple and Nokia, on average, had the highest-priced cell phones/devices, while BlackBerry(R), Motorola and Samsung provided prices on the low end. With Apple’s recent announcement of the lower-priced iPhone 3G, Apple may see online consumers changing their minds about purchasing an iPhone.

It’s important to note that PriceGrabber users are not the target market for Apple. Deal hunters won’t be iPhone buyers.
